What is Bond?
A bond is a loan you make to a government or company. In return, the issuer pays you interest (the coupon) and returns your principal on a set maturity date.
Why it matters
Bonds are usually steadier than stocks and provide income, which is why many portfolios hold both. Prices move inversely to interest rates, and the issuer can default.
