What is Share Buyback?
A buyback, or share repurchase, is when a company buys its own shares from the market, reducing the number of shares outstanding.
Why it matters
Buybacks return cash to shareholders and can raise earnings per share, because profit is divided among fewer shares. They are only a good use of cash if the company buys at sensible prices.
