VHS : Beyond Wall Street - Episodes 1 & 2: Growth Equities Investing & Value Equities Investing
In this pair of programs from the PBS series Beyond Wall Street: The Art of Investing, two prominent money managers with different approaches to the market speak at some length about their strategies. Foster Friess, the manager of the Brandywine mutual funds, is the epitome of the growth investor. Keeping an eye out for stocks that are hitting new highs as companies demonstrate robust growth, Friess and his research staff doggedly try to locate investment opportunities before they are widely recognized. While Friess distinguished himself by being able to identify rockets about to take off, mutual fund manager John Neff has made his mark by being a textbook value investor. Neff has typically looked for companies that have fallen out of favor yet have the potential to rebound dramatically. In a relaxed interview, Neff details the gutsy decision he made to aggressively buy the stock of Citibank in 1990 when the enormous financial services company was thought to be on the verge of ruin, and was thus very richly rewarded when Citibank turned around. more info...
